Did you know that it’s very easy to stream music stored in your Mac’s iTunes library directly to your Pix-Star?
First you need to download and install “Nicecast” (available at rogueamoeba.com), a software that makes it possible to listen to web radio directly from your Mac, and to broadcast music from your iTunes library.
Once Nicecast is installed, start iTunes and play your music. In the Nicecast interface, click on “broadcast”, then click on the “Share” button to display your local network broadcast URL (it should look like this: http://192.168.1.103:8000/listen.m3u where “192.168.1.103” is your Mac’s IP address on your local network). DO NOT use the internet URL, be sure to use the “LOCAL” one.
You can then go to the www.pix-star.com web site and log in to your Pix-Star management area. Go to the web radio section and insert a “CUSTOMISED WEB RADIO” inside one of your playlists (create a new web radio playlist if you do not have one yet). Inside this customised WEB STATION, paste the URL you got from Nicecast. Save the playlist and check your Pix-Star after a few seconds. It should be ready and available as the first listing in the Web Radio menu.
You can now use it like a radio station and you should hear the music coming from your Mac!
You only need to set this configuration ONCE. The next time you start your computer and Nicecast, the URL should remain unchanged if you still use the same network (for instance your home network).
